Violence at Howe Community Park Injures 4 Shot in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County
Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are investigating a violent incident that occurred Saturday evening at Howe Park just as officers were dissolving an unauthorized event of hundreds of attendees.
Before the Gunfire
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies first arrived at the Arden-Arcade park at about 6:30 PM after learning of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Shortly after, a follow-up call was made mentioning a possible fight occurring near the park.
An overhead unit flew over the park but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Despite this, it was apparent that a crowd of several hundred had gathered without authorization without authorization.
The Shooting Itself
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by forming a perimeter and using their vehicle PA systems commanding the crowd to clear out. Around 15 minutes were spent for individuals to vacate.
As the crowd was being cleared that upwards of 20 gunshots echoed through the night. The shots caused mass panic. Officers immediately began looking for those injured.
Four People Shot
When the dust settled, four people were found to have been shot. Those injured — including a female and three males each reported to be in their mid to late twenties — were rushed to Sacramento area hospitals. Doctors and nurses noted that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one had moderate injuries, and one had injuries classified as minor. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Sacramento park shooting 2026 Fire Department assisted at the location and helped triage the four victims prior to hospital transport.
What Investigators Found
The bulk of the shooting was believed to have occurred along Cottage Way alongside the local Home Depot on the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Law enforcement investigators located further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Projectile impacts were also found in the iron perimeter fence surrounding the nearby Home Depot. The physical evidence pointed to that one of the gunmen had been sending rounds south from the Cottage Way area targeting the Home Depot. The Home Depot was put under lockdown as a precaution. Crime scene technicians and detectives stayed at the location well into the night.
Suspects Detained
Information obtained through law enforcement radio communications indicated that a Kia had been detained in the Solano County area. Four people were detained. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were heading to pick up the four detainees to collect the individuals for formal questioning. Video reviewed at the scene confirmed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
